<p>Civil Construction Heavy Equipment Operator &ndash; Excavation &amp; Underground Utilities</p><p>Projects Located in Ohio</p><p><strong>Job Summary</strong></p><p>The Civil Construction Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy construction equipment in support of excavation, trenching, underground utilities, and large-scale site development projects. Operators work closely with foremen, laborers, and other crew members to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project requirements. All Operators must demonstrate strong equipment proficiency, safety awareness, and teamwork in fast-paced construction environments.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Core Responsibilities (All Operator Levels)</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Equipment Operation</strong></p><p>- Safely operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, rock trucks (articulated haul trucks), loaders, dozers, and other earthmoving equipment</p><p>- Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handling per project plans</p><p>- Excavate around underground utilities while maintaining proper clearances and safety standards</p><p>- Support duct-bank, vault, and utility installation by excavating to required depths and alignments</p><p>- Load, haul, and place material efficiently using rock trucks or loaders</p><p>- Work with spotters and laborers to maintain safe work zones</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Safety &amp; Compliance</strong></p><p>- Comply with all company safety policies and procedures</p><p>- Follow OSHA regulations, including OSHA Subpart P (Trenching &amp; Excavation)</p><p>- Perform pre-operation inspections and complete daily equipment checklists</p><p>- Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment issues immediately</p><p>- Participate in daily safety meetings, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and toolbox talks</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Equipment Care &amp; Teamwork</strong></p><p>- Perform daily fueling, greasing, cleaning, and basic preventive maintenance</p><p>- Report maintenance or repair needs promptly</p><p>- Communicate clearly with foremen, laborers, and other operators</p><p>- Maintain productivity while ensuring quality workmanship and safety compliance</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Operator Classification Levels</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Operator I (Advanced Operator)</strong></p><p>- 5&ndash;7 years of heavy equipment operating experience</p><p>- Independently operates excavators and haul trucks with minimal supervision</p><p>- Performs precise excavation and grading work</p><p>- Assists foremen with production goals</p><p>- Supports training of junior operators</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Operator II (Intermediate Operator)</strong></p><p>- 2&ndash;4 years of heavy equipment operating experience</p><p>- Operates excavators, rock trucks, and loaders with moderate supervision</p><p>- Performs standard excavation and material handling tasks</p><p>- Continues development of grading and utility skills</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Operator III (Entry-Level Operator)</strong></p><p>- 0&ndash;2 years of equipment operating experience preferred</p><p>- Prior construction or labor experience required</p><p>- Operates equipment under close supervision</p><p>- Learns safe operating procedures, grades, and utility awareness</p><p>- Demonstrates reliability, safety focus, and willingness to learn</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p>- Valid driver&rsquo;s license</p><p>- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment</p><p>- Strong understanding of construction site safety</p><p>- Reliable transportation to assigned job sites</p><p>- Willingness to comply with drug testing and company safety requirements</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></p><p>- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment</p><p>- Ability to climb in and out of equipment multiple times per day</p><p>- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds</p><p>- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions</p><p>- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment</p><p><strong>Work Environment</strong></p><p>- Outdoor construction sites with exposure to dirt, dust, noise, vibration, and heavy equipment</p><p>- Fast-paced, production-driven environment</p><p>- May require overtime, weekend, or night work based on project schedules</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
